Solve This Puzzle: What Is This Mystery Object? by

Yes, it’s a street lamp – but where did I shoot this image? Put on your thinking caps, but most of all, have fun! Your time starts …. NOW! 254 views on 26 February 2011.

Spoiler alert: do not read any further, unless you want to see the answer.

Solved by Queensland-based PhotosByG, who correctly identified the exact spot, answering in less than 25 minutes that it is the Sydney Harbour Bridge, as seen from The Rocks area.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F11, 1/500 sec, ISO 200, focal length 98mm.

France, the Eiffel tower :) Good evening David.

  • Hi Alixzandra. Hope you had a great Easter. It’s not the Eiffel Tower – although the structure looks intriguingly similar!

Was it professor plum, in the library, with the candlestick??

  • G’day Mark. It was DEFINITELY Professor Plum, outdoors, with a Pentax K100D …..!!!

    ‘Sir, Sir, is it Blackpool’..??

  • ``Sir, Sir," quoth the knave in reply to the Lord of Tull, ``I’m afraid it is not Blackpool."

From where exactly I have no idea, but it looks to be from a bridge! Good one.

  • It is most definitely a bridge, Vigor! Glad you like the shot.

Looks like a walkway at the bottom that you’d expect to see under the Sydney Harbour Bridge approaches, so I’d say you shot it in The Rocks, Sydney.

  • Yes, it’s the walkway under the Sydney Harbour Bridge – and yes, it was shot at The Rocks, right under the bridge, on Easter Saturday afternoon, in wonderful clear conditions. Well solved. Will update this with a link to you.

‘Ooohh, Sydney Harbour Bridge, shot from The Rocks’…

  • Yes, sirree, but my team of judges tell me that you got beaten in a ``photo finish’’. Still, second place is worth a lot!

Thanks David – you know where to send the cheque! LOL!

  • The gold trophy and cheque will be at your door by midday, Graham! Great work, because you even worked out exactly where I took the shot.

It was the blue skies that gave it away to me David – I thought it had to be in Oz somewhere. Cheers.

  • Good thought process. Interestingly, it clouded up shortly after!
