This was shot in mid-September 2005 at Port Carling in Muskoka, Canada. I was standing on the U Dock of the Delta Sherwood hotel, looking over the silent lake when I took this as part of a series from pre-dawn to sun-up.
As the sun began to break over the horizon, the warmth of the rays began to coax tendrils of mist from the cold surface of the lake – leading to the unusual haze.
Interestingly enough, this dawn is described – exactly as I saw it – in the opening chapters of my latest novel, Muskoka Maharani, published yesterday by Penguin. Two of the fictional characters stand exactly where I stood in real life to shoot this photograph.
I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot on film using a Canon EOS 3000.
