Darth Evaders: It's An Army Of R2D2 Clones by

It was a hot, humid day in Singapore just before Christmas 2007 when I spotted this sight on Orchard Road, the main shopping district.

It’s simply an advertising hoarding – and the repetitive pattern caught my attention, but so did something else! Can you spot what seems to be the head and shoulders of a crouching man in the background?

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F8, 1/250 sec, ISO 400, focal length 125mm.

    Love the repeating patterns.

  • Thanks, William. I wish I’d made a note of what the hoarding actually advertised!

He’s spooky and the whole image looks painted. And great!

  • That’s exactly what I thought at the time, Betty. It looked just like a painting ….

Very cool!! And what’s that just to the left of him? Love your “eye”.

  • Thank you – but I’m not sure what that is to his left!

Cool image, but I have absolutely no idea what I’m looking at! What is an “advertising hoarding”?

  • Sorry – I should have said ``billboard’’ – that’s the more common term for it. Glad you like the image.

Thanks David, that explains one thing. Unfortunately I still don’t know what I’m looking at, lol! How does one put up advertising on this uneven surface? Maybe more to the point, how large or small are the individual elements? It’s a pleasing abstract, but it teases my eyes that I cannot get a “fix” on it. :)

    Congratulations on your feature!

  • It’s actually a flat surface – with a huge advertising poster fixed in place. The overall area would have been about 5m x 2.5m in dimension. Thanks for your kind words.
