January's Last Moments Of Daylight by

I was shooting a wedding last Sunday (31st January, 2010) when I decided to walk outdoors and check the sky, because I could see some interesting hues above the gum trees in the west. (252 views on 12 June 2011.)

I was in unfamiliar terrain in the Malvern Valley, but I’m so glad I left the reception and walked outdoors. Just a few metres away from me was a meandering creek lined by eucalypts – and the water was a brilliant mirror of the eastern sky as January surrendered its dying moments of light.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F5.6, 1/20 sec, ISO 400, focal length 26mm.

  • Humbly, may I just say that you have made me feel like an Olympic winner. Thank you. Quite simply, you have made my day.

    Lovely mood!

  • Thank you so much, Barbara – I have known the bride since she was born, and I showed her father this shot moment after I had taken it. I think it was apt that such a spectacular scene from Nature should manifest itself at the wedding of the daughter of our closest friends.

Great capture and stunning color David….this looks awesome !!

  • Thank you very much, Sean. I really don’t know what drew me outside – curiosity, perhaps! But I’m so glad I walked out of the reception to investigate!

    Bravo – bravo – Love it !

  • Thank you so much, Michelle. And to think I only wandered out because I could see a tinge of colour in the west – not knowing there was this amazing display over the creek in the east!

    lovely!

  • Thanks very much, Angela. Very appropriate to think that a just-married couple were starting an amazing chapter in their lives against this spectacular backdrop.

    Awesome!!

  • Thanks very much. The interesting thing is that none of the wedding guests could see this amazing sight, because the windows faced the other way!

Wow, a spectacular sky, David, and that water is like liquid fire! Simply glorious.

  • Thank you so much, Bev – and for the favourite as well. Something drew me outdoors from the reception that evening!
