Okay, so perhaps this shot was inspired by the Eagles’ hit “Hotel California” – I shot this recently, outside the Langham Hotel here in Melbourne.
It was like watching an action sequence in a film, because there was movement on all fronts. A limo had just pulled up, people were coming and going, an SUV owner was unloading luggage, the concierge was summoning a taxi, luggage was being pushed in all directions. You know what I mean?
So I just stood there in the dusk and wondered if a) I could avoid being bowled over by the throng and b) if I could actually compose a shot of some artistic merit as all the movement took place around me.
This luggage trolley was being pushed in front of one (see bottom right) that was beside me and I decided to shoot so that the convergence of its four brass arms took centre-frame. Depth of field presented me with some interesting light halos on the right, while the little red light up the top is an interesting aspect, to my mind at least.
It was a light on the tailgate of the SUV (or 4WD as we call them here) and the owner was just closing it as I hit the trigger, creating an interesting point of light above the main focus.
I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 70-300mm lens. F5.6, 1/30 sec, ISO 800, focal length 240mm.
