Solve This Puzzle: What Is This Mystery Object? by

What on earth could it be? I look forward to your theories …. and yes, you can have as many guesses as you want.

Don’t read any further if you want to keep guessing, because the case has been cracked …

Jen Wahl solved this on the fourth guess when she said it was the back of a chair. Yes, it’s indeed the back of a chair, shot about a month ago at a Southbank open-air cafe here in Melbourne.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 70-300mm lens. F6.7, 1/500 sec, ISO 400, focal length 300mm.

Featured in NO MORE COLOR, December 2009.

yes a ladle or a fly swatter thats killed a few flys in its time

  • Shadowlee, that’s a wonderful guess, but no. Fly swatters are a great Aussie must-have, but this isn’t one of them ….

it could be a tractor seat

  • Funny you should say that, Shadowlee – as soon as I saw it, that’s what I was reminded of. No, it ain’t a tractor seat …

Well, the holes are not sized consistently, but I don’t know what that tells me. It appears to be an outdoors photo. Looks like a fence in the back. I don’t know what that tells me either. So I give up. I’ll wait for someone else to guess it correctly.

  • You’re right about the holes not being consistent, Nancy. Yes, it’s an outdoors photo. And yes, that is a very low, mini version of a fence.

  • That’s a wonderful idea, Lisa – I wish I could invent a pool cleaner like that! I’ll just get the drawing board out right now ….

Or maybe the back of a chair.

  • Your ``maybe’’ is a definite, Lisa. Yes, it is indeed the back of a cafe chair here in Melbourne. Well done!

Dam! Missed out again!! I thought it was a close up of a fly’s wing :?)

  • I did wonder where you were, Di – were you tending the newborns? What a great idea – maybe the designer modelled this on a fly’s wing ….
