This shot of a historic roof was taken in the Block Arcade in Melbourne, about 18 months ago.
This Heritage-listed arcade, designed by architect David C. Askew, dates back to the late 19th century.
I was shooting a series of images from ground level and I had just fired off some close-ups of the roof when the light changed and the glass roof – which functions as a giant skylight – suddenly became much brighter.
At that point I realised I should scale the lens back and try and capture some of the geometrical magnificence.
I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F6.7, 1/90 sec, ISO 400, focal length 34mm.
