Rattlesnake? No, But What Breed Of Snake Is This? by

If you guessed that it’s a variation of a Rubik’s snake, you’re absolutely correct.

I simply shot this as it lay on a sunlit desk. I guess I was captivated by the many colours and textures, as well as the huge variation in grain on each surface.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F6.7, 1/60 sec, ISO 800, focal length 125mm.

    I KNOW!!! I KNOW!!!
    It’s a ASHWOOD ASP…LOL :p

  • That is such a clever answer, Di that I want you to graduate a year early. But don’t mention the word ``asp’’ in front of anyone named Cleopatra!

Ok Its late and I read your description…..but mathmatically if it could make a shape of a circle and 2 sides disecting the centre it would be a Pie thon. Ok time do hit the hay, I am loosing it lol.

  • So you are the new-generation PIEthagoras! I always suspected that, Sean!

It could be a mathematical mamba, but maybe it is just a woodworm with attitude! :) Either way, it’s a lovely shot!

  • And you, Erika, have a winning way with prose (and alliteration). Glad you approve of the shot. Thank you!

I’m not gonna guess what kind of snake this is, but I will say it’s a great shot! :-)

  • Thanks very much, Helene. The light was just perfect for all those hues of wood. Glad you liked the shot.

You can’t do Rubik’s Snake? I never even heard of it before but now I know what to give a puzzle-loving son, he he. And I will write “Ashwood Asp” on the package. Great shot!

  • I’m sure he’ll enjoy it, Betty, especially with that inscription! I’d never seen a wooden version of this before …

Interesting composition. Love that warm color.

  • Thank you so much – glad you like the monochrome in this shot. Have to say I can’t do the puzzle, though!
