All Astronauts Need Some S-S-S-Space by

I’d like to say I shot this while a NASA astronaut did a moon walk or even a space walk repair mission outside the space shuttle Discovery.

But no, this is just a life-size metallic figure! (I must say, though, that the “reflection” on the visor is really interesting.)

This was shot in 2007 at the Moomba fairgrounds at the Alexandra Gardens here in Melbourne. Moomba is a 10-day carnival on the banks of the Yarra and this was shot the day after it had closed.

I was walking through the parkland as the rides and stalls were being dismantled and I just happened to notice this lonely astronaut propped up against a generator, awaiting shipment.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F9.5, 1/250 sec, ISO 200, focal length 88mm.

Featured in 60’s GLORY, October 2009.

    Surreal.

  • Thanks, Betty. That’s exactly what I thought when I saw the figure there, just propped up against the generator!

    And again, fantastic L:)X

  • And thank you, again! It was just one of those shots that had to be taken – before the astronaut was taken away.

Good shot. With the right background, you can make people believe you were with him in space when you took his picture :-) – and then stand back and watch the conspiracy theories unfold :-)

  • Ah, I wish I’d thought of that!!!!
