Ringo, Paul, Is This The Yellow Submarine? by

It might look like a piece from a jigsaw, but this is simply the driver’s cabin of a monorail train in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This was shot at Bukit Nanas station, on a hot, humid evening in July 2008. The trains are a variety of colours and when this yellow one pulled into the busy station, I had to grab my camera to shoot it from an unusual angle.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my work in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F6.7, 1/45 sec, ISO 800, focal length 68mm.

    so cool!!! great shot!

  • Thanks very much, Cheryl. I remember this shot so well because the platform was fairly crowded and I just wanted the tight frame and nothing else!

Haha! Cool title! “we all live in a yellow submarine…yallow submrine…yellow submarine…”…Great forecast, isn’t it? Smart shot!

  • Thanks, Luanda, I’m glad it brought those lyrics to mind immediately! Glad you like the shot.

David…. Your perceptions… always bolds me away. Very Nicely done

  • Thanks very much, Vivek. Lucky I use a Sigma 18-125mm lens as a standard – that gives me a lot of options.

You always have the best titles David! Great shot :)

  • Thanks so much, Shelly. Wish there was a periscope to go with the shot! I’m delighted that you like the title.

Apart from the yellow “artefact” nosing into attention, I love how this abstract photograph seems to highlight a wide variety of geometrical shapes happily composing together!

  • Thanks very much, Gemma. When I hit the trigger, I was also mesmerised by the red light on the driver’s control console. And yes, geometry in everyday life always fascinates me.

    Great shot!

  • Thank you very much, Shulie. Lucky I was able to compose a tight frame without the people on my platform or on the opposite platform, where this train was picking up passengers.

Great Capture, I had one like that too once,,,,till it fell through a whole in me pocket down on Penny Lane. :)

  • Thanks Alex. You should have gone looking for it at Strawberry Fields – you would have found it there, for sure!

Ah yeah I remember that place back in the 60s and 70s ,,,oops no that was JM Fields. I think they went the way of Woolworths, Grants, and Montgomery Wards, oh and Circuit City as of late. I’m sure Strawberry Fields is still around,,,for-ev-ver!

  • We’ll have to check it out. I’m sure I’ve seen photographs of the sign over the front gate …..
