I'm Keeping Tabs On Ya by David McMahon
Clear

Sometimes the simplest objects can create intriguing results. This is a contemporary pencil case made from multiple strips of brightly coloured fabric. (2,034 views and 16 favourites on 28 August 2014.)

My eye was caught by the long vertical strips of interlocking teeth – and the fact that each strip ends in a metal tab.

The sharp focus of the tabs in front was perfect to use depth of field to emphasise the fact that the rear tabs (literally only a centimetre away) were visible but in soft focus.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D in dull light, using my favourite lens, a Sigma 18-125mm.

I love these beautiful colors! They need to make a snuggy like this!

  • Thanks, Leilani – I agree with you about the colours. It’s amazing to see what the pencil case looks like when all the zips are undone – just many strands of bright colours!

The clarity is spot on…along with the brilliant, vivid colors….WTG!

  • Thanks very much, Pat. Interesting observation – because this was taken with a standard lens, not a macro! Glad you like the result.

You always seem to find that something out of the ordinary.
    Another creative image….Well done David.

  • Thank you, John. My sincere thanks for a wonderful comment. Sights like this just make me stop in my tracks and I “see” the shot even before I have picked up my camera.
