I shot this about a month ago, in an arcade in Melbourne’s central business district. The neon sign caught my attention from almost fifty metres away and I took a few shots encompassing passers-by.

Then, as I walked closer into the arcade, I noticed the subtle reflections of the neon lighting on the metal railings on the left. Now I could see a completely different facet to the sight.

This time I shot a reasonably tight frame, still anchored around the sign itself, but incorporating the delicate nuances of the reflection on the slender strips of metal.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my work in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F5.6, 1/30sec, ISO 800, focal length 125mm.

Greetings David; The reflections on the railing have taken on the appearance of being neon as well. Another great photo from your fantastic eye ! Well done !

  • Thanks very much, Steve. Funny thing is, the first two frames were shot from about 30-35 metres away. Then as I came closer, I realised that the real beauty was the reflection on the metal!

(Smile!) I love your title! A delicious lightscape.

  • Glad it brought a smile to your face. Great to know you like the lightscape – it’s not often we catch a glimpse of that sort of reflection on dark-coloured metal.
