This image was shot in Kolkata, India, during the festive Puja season in October 2006.
I was walking up a set of stairs towards an office when I noticed these devotional decorations carefully Sellotaped to the upright portion of each stair. The light wasn’t the best, but the gold tassels were so outstanding that I just had to get a shot.
As I lined up this frame, I made sure to orient it in such a way that the subtle reflection in the surface of the dark stairs would also be seen, to the point where it started to fade away.
The Puja season, just before the onset of cooler weather, honours Hindu gods and goddesses.
I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F5.6, 1/250 sec, ISO 200 and focal length 125mm.
