Beats your average factory-produced business shoes, for sure! (1079 views on 20 July 2011.)

Traditional rich colours and upturned toes of North Indian footwear on display in Singapore. These shoes are worn by men and while I’m told they are extremely comfortable, I’ve never road-tested them!

I shot this image in a display setting outside a store in Singapore’s Little India area. Because it was indoors, the low light was a help, not a hindrance.

This was one of about half a dozen frames, but I reckon it has the edge because of the depth of field, the tight composition – and the fact it would be a great advertisement for a three-legged race.

I shot this aspect deliberately, so that a viewer’s eye would first be drawn to the intricate, gilt handiwork on the shoes – and then be drawn forward to the graceful, long points.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F6.7, 1/45 sec, ISO 800, focal length 88mm.

I don’t know if I’m more impressed by the colour and clarity… or by the three-footed model :)

  • You’re the first person to comment on the three feet! But there were about six or eight plastic feet in a row, so I just took my pick!

  • Thank you, Jens. I took this simply as a tribute to the craftsmen/craftswomen who created them.
