TheTen(t) Commandments
Splendid isolation would have to be defined as being the only camper on the shores of Talus Lake, entirely surrounded by the snowy peaks of Tombstone Territorial Park.
As you can see in the seemingly endless expanse of meadow, the wildflowers in Canada’s Yukon had just started blooming.
I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F9.5, 1/250 sec, ISO 200, focal length 45mm.
Featured in A VIEW SOMEWHERE, November 2009.

Betty Mackey
So glad the tent is color coordinated with the landscape, heh heh.
David McMahon replied
Thanks, Betty. That hadn’t occurred to me – but now that you point it out ….!!
Shulie1
Truly a beautiful place and you had it all to yourself!
David McMahon replied
It was amazing, Shulie. I actually wasn’t there on my own – I was just on a chopper flight around the mountains and we landed at the Lake for about 45 minutes. The tent belonged to a Whitehorse-based photographer whose name I will recall in the seconds after I post this reply to you!
greenstone
thank you for sharing this!!!!!!! wonderful!
David McMahon replied
Thank you very much, Greenstone. I grew up around snow-capped mountains, and so it’s not surprising that my camera is drawn to snowy peaks!
Cee Neuner
Awesome capture and perspective!!! :D
David McMahon replied
Thank you, Cee – locals told me later that it was the first weekend in months that the skies were clear!
sfmilner
Greetings David; A beautiful campscape. What a wonderful backdrop to wake up too.

David McMahon replied
Thank you, Steve. I had actually just flown in on a chopper from nearby Dawson City – the tent belonged to a Canadian photographer from Whitehorse. But yes, I agree there is no better backdrop, is there?
David Hibberd
A lovely image of a wonderful pace.
David McMahon replied
And total silence as well, Dave. Such peace …
Sean Jansen

David McMahon replied
Thanks very much, Sean – the Yukon has inspired me since I first set foot there 10 years ago. So glad you like this shot.

This photo was chosen because it was of a very high quality and it captured exactly the sort of work we are looking for in this group.
Please keep up the great work and we hope you continue to add more of your excellent photographs to this group.
David McMahon replied
Thank you so much – it’s always a great honour to be featured. And even though these images were shot long before I joined Red Bubble, it’s great to see them being featured.
