Harley Street Specialist
The chrome top of this Harley’s fuel tank reminded me of the breastplate of an ancient Roman centurion.
I shot this last week on a bright, sunny afternoon on St KIlda Road. Because the Harley is black, it almost looks as if the chrome panel is floating in nothingness.
Because I shot this from behind, I was able to capture the reflection of the clear blue springtime sky and the new greenery on a nearby plane tree.

Cee Neuner
Great capture. :D :D
David McMahon replied
Thanks, Cee – Don’t think the shot would have been as effective if the bike was a light colour!
Martina Fagan
Brill shot love it:)
David McMahon replied
Thanks very much, Martina. The chrome was a bit dusty, but the reflection was still intriguing! Glad you like this one.
Shulie1
This is a great shot – and yes, it does look like a breastplate
David McMahon replied
Thank you, Shulie – glad you see it the same way I do. I wonder where the centurion was!
JUSTART
fab shot
David McMahon replied
Thanks, JustArt – the sky was just perfect for this shot!
Shulie1
I guess he went for a Roman holiday!
David McMahon replied
Ah, Shulie, that’s just brilliant. I should have looked around to see if he was roamin’ in the vicinity!
Shulie1
Very funny – maybe he was given the boot and had to go home
David McMahon replied
Or maybe he was told to ``see ‘em’’ at the Coliseum!
sarahhoffman
Excellent photo Dave!
David McMahon replied
Thanks very much, Sarah – I was lucky with the blue sky and the fresh foliage, or else it would have just been a ``standard’’ reflection shot!
Shulie1
Or maybe, he is doing yoga in a toga
David McMahon replied
Or he could be looking for a region for his legion!
sfmilner
Greetings David; Excellent capture, the reflections are wonderful.
steve
David McMahon replied
Thank you, Steve. The bike was parked in a perfect spot – so I was able to work the angle to get in the sky and the fresh green foliage. I guess I have to thank the owner of the Harley!
Shulie1
I found him! His chariot is double parked at Caesar’s Palace
David McMahon replied
I was going to say that I concede defeat …. but I wonder if he went in to order a Caesar salad?
Rob Toombs
Love the reflections David.. Very cool shot mate…
David McMahon replied
Thanks very much, Rob. I don’t think I would have taken the shot if it wasn’t showing the blue and green reflections!
bevanimage
Very clever, David, great reflections.
David McMahon replied
Thanks so much, BevanImage – the reflections really made this shot ``happen’’. Glad you like it.
Shulie1
Now I concede defeat! You win
David McMahon replied
No, don’t give up … I was enjoying matching wits with you.
Shulie1
I have been roman around in my mind trying to think of something else but thjis is my last poor effort
David McMahon
Just don’t light a Roman candle!

Must be the rarely seen ‘Gladiator’ model of the Harley!

As ridden by Russell Crowe, no doubt!

Good stuff. When I first saw this on your site in a smaller view – I thought it was a metalic canoe – maybe it’s my eyes. Either way, great shot!
