Boldness At The Very Edge
This shot of the Petronas Towers, Kuala Lumpur, was taken in July 2008. It was a hot, sunny day and I wanted a frame that emphasised the effective combination of triangles, arcs and straight lines within a single facade.
By composing this shot, I concentrated on the abstract aspect of the image. Yet, it is instantly recognisable as the facade of the side-by-side towers.
Euclid himself would have been impressed with the great work of the architects.
I do not crop or post-edit my work in any way. I shot this with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F9.5, 1/250 sec, ISO 200, focal length 50mm.

quite interseting perspective
David McMahon replied
Thanks so much, Carolline. The towers are even better to photograph at night, when they are lit!
Ranald
Some building.
David McMahon replied
Thanks, Ranald. They were the tallest in the world until they were eclipsed by Taipei 101 – but from memory they are still the tallest ``twin’’ structures in the world.
Lorena Maria
Wow, this is amazing David. Taken something so normal and made it look like something from another world completely. Love the exposure here and the lighting is perfect.
David McMahon replied
Thanks, Lorena. I was lucky with the light – it was very sunny, so I actually had to work the angle carefully.
tim buckley
fabulous, love your traditional capture philosophy of non post processing too, photography is photography, digital imaging is digital imaging…great stuff…
David McMahon replied
Thanks very much for that comment. When I was 13 years old, I learnt (at school) the art of darkroom developing, mixing chemicals, using an enlarger and different printing techniques. Each was complementary.
Today’s technology is simply the electronic equivalent of using a darkroom. Instead of using techniques of heightening contrast and areas within a print, as the greatest black-and-white masters did (legitimately) today’s photographers (equally legitimately) can use a variety of post-editing techniques.
This is entirely legitimate and is an art form all of its own.
However, in full understanding of a) the technology b) the darkroom art, I choose not to crop or post-edit my images.
Why? Because that, to me, is the true challenge of photography. It’s a purely personal view … and everyone is entitled to their own stance in this debate.
Rosalie Scanlon
Excellent capture and taken at a great angle.
David McMahon replied
Thank you very much, Rosalie. It was a very hot morning but I was determined to get some good shots.
Maria Moro

That’s made my day. Thank you so much, Maria. The architecture was such an interesting use of sharp angles and soft curves.
My thanks, once again …..

David McMahon replied
Thank you very much, Hologram. It’s such a famous landmark that I just wanted to do a) something different and b) something simple. Many thanks for your comment.

Thank you very much, Kat. I was actually debating between this shot and `Peak Hour’ for your group. I was about to post this one and then I changed my mind at the last second!

Add it too :-}
David McMahon replied
Okey-dokey – here goes.

AWESOME!!!
David McMahon replied
Thank you, Kat. I thought you might like this shot – it’s not the sort of view you normally see of the towers.
