Service With A Smile
These flags carry the famous symbol of the Australian Open tennis tournament, one of the world’s four major titles that constitute the coveted grand slam.
It was a scorching hot January morning and the flags were being whipped by a hostile northerly breeze – away from me. Then for one brief moment, they filled my screen.
The flags, on the corner of Punt Road, were several metres high but because I chose to shoot this from Platform One at Richmond station, I was shooting at almost the same height as the flags!
I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 70-300mm lens.

Thanks very much, Gerrard – this one was just the result of a patient wait and a lucky change in wind direction!
Helen Corr
beautiful!
David McMahon replied
Thanks very much, Helen. I actually shot this from a station platform – so that I was at the same height as the flag, which are several metres high!

at www.ultimatetennisart.com, there are over 100 originals and prints, exclusively of tennis. We even have a gallery called “Tennis Players, Stadiums & Tournaments.” This work would fit in perfectly in our category called Australian Open, please get in touch with me, thank you! Mike Weinstein
David McMahon replied
Hi Mike, I’ve only just seen your kind message. Sorry for the delay. Do I have to formally submit this to the website? Not sure what process to follow ….
