Red Cuillin - Am Binnean Dearg, Isle of Skye. Scotland by

The Red Hills (Am Binnean Dearg in Gaelic) are sometimes known as the Red Cuillin though this is a local name. They are mainly composed of granite which is paler than the gabbro (with a reddish tinge from some angles in some lights) and has weathered into more rounded hills with vegetation cover to summit level and long scree slopes on their flanks.

The highest point of the hills is Glamaig, one of only two Corbetts on Skye.

Lovely view David and I like the touch of mist.

  • Thanks very much Peter, didn’t take long for it to drop down off the hills!

Excellent shot David, a moody one with amazing clarity. The composition is great with the split between the hills and foreground rocks.

  • Thank you very much Steen, I choose the split because it seemed like two different environments and those rocks seemed to create a good dividing line.

A great mood to this shot David – and there’s that fantastic V again! Great, you always spot them! With that heather it looks like it could be midgey time – I hope you didn’t get too assaulted!

  • Thanks very much John, the midge weren’t too bad…well not as bad as they were at Loch Duich!
