Heritage Listed Cooma Railway Station
.
As the gateway to the Snowy Mountains, Cooma was the destination for almost 100 years of railway services, until the line from Queanbeyan to Cooma was closed in 1989.
.
The railway town has again been brought to life with the Cooma Monaro Railway offering branch line rides to picturesque Chakola – breathing life and fun into the site. The railway’s dedicated volunteers have worked hard to ensure the site’s many attractions remain accessible for the public to explore and enjoy.
.
These include the heritage listed 1889 railway station, the yard and other station buildings, and NSW’s last locomotive straight shed.

Great shot David. I have a shot of the Deepwater Railway Station(New England Region). It too was closed many years back. I’m so pleased that they keep them looking good after they no longer in service. Love the dramatic treatment you’ve given it.

  • Thank you Lorraine, yes the railway’s dedicated volunteers have worked hard to keep this looking in great pristine condition.

Would have loved to have taken more images but as you can see I had a massive storm approaching very fast.

haha…same thing was happening at the time I took my shot. Fortunately my mum lives a short walk away and I could retreat to safety quickly.

Awesome clarity and that nasty sky really brings out the colour of the station.

  • Thanks Bill
