I’m just reading a book about Waterloo 1815. And how these ‘Old Guard’ were annihilated – getting thier heads, limbs, intestines, genitals, etc, etc, blown off.

A sad and horrible time. Yet this exquisite painting, of these uniformed soldiers marching, is truly superb. Beauty from Napoleonic horror.
Wonderful.
