Ramona Bordando by

La Sra. Ramona bordando.

Ramona is a single mother who supports 9 children with her artwork. She embroiders shawls, blouses and other types of clothing made from locally woven wool. One of her shawls sold for $850.00 pesos, ($63˙US) while I was visiting her “Puesto” but prices range depending on the size of the product and the intricacy of her artwork. I came to realize that Ramona is a sort of embroidery Mozart in the sense that her hands skillfully stitch the patterns and images flowing through her mind. None of her designs are identical, and one could spend delightful hours gazing upon the colorful flowers and fantastic creatures gracing her wearable tapestries.

What is the conversion of a pesos-U$ ? This is a very beautiful image, I like the red wall and white seat and the colourful needle work. Great comp.

  • Thank you Barbara! The exchange rate right now is 13.5 to one so the shawl cost about $63.00 US. Had I bought it, I’d be tempted to hang it on the wall rather than wear it. Your link took me to a clear gif. Can you re-send?
Thanks again for your attention and comments :-)

Richard, una escena hermosa . me gusta !

  • Mil gracias Liliana. Me gusta mucho visitar este lugar donde la gente vende lo que ellos mismos hacen. El mercado esta llena de puestos llenos de verdura que los dueños han traído de su propia cosecha y las artesanías igual.

A lovely capture Richard – what a talented inspiring lady!

  • Yes, she is a fascinating person and an inspiring artist. I still can’t get over the fact that she creates all this artwork without using patterns or at least drawing the designs on the cloth first. I can see how she could imagine the pattern before hand, but her ability to actually create the designs one stitch at a time (And get it all right) is beyond me. Thank you so much for your attention and great comments :-)

A single mother!!!…Women are extraordinary….these women have Time as a flooding of work and love that is so wonderful. She is there patient and centered…her art her meditation, her good nature her best garment. I love her…

  • Thank you very much Rosa. She is an extraordinary woman as you say, and I can’t imagine raising 9 children – much less by myself.
