Exactly Dave, and for me it’s all words these days, many many words.
Hi Syd, I am intrigued. What’s up? You are now an author?
– Dave Martsolf
Started a year ago with a writer friend falling in love with my Deeping Bosk artwork, she practically bullied me into writing a beginning of who Jemma was and how she arrived in the enchanted forest. Many many emails later and I have almost 200 pages of a high energy adventure fantasy, a prequil to the pictures I originally made. In the book she is around 10 or 11, not the 16 year old in the original pics.
Also planning on some illustrations, I will render a scene as before, then draw and paint additional detail on top and blend, stylizing as I go. This will be a new process and look. That’s where all my spare time goes these days, and I am around 3/4 finished. Writing is very hard, I guess submitting a book is hard too.
How you doing?
Just stuck the wrong end of my chopsticks into my lunch :-) . I’m loading a couple of new T-shirts and will write you again when finished. Lots going on. Never enough time. You know the drill. I’ll write soon.

Hi Syd, I have been working hard in the last month to mount and promote my solo show at Gaalatea Fine Art in Boston. The shows ends Jan 29th and I will go down in my little white truck to bring all my children back home safe and sound. In the meantime I have been contacting as many media people and local galleries as I can, hoping to keep the wave going, build on it and leverage it as much as possible.
I ahve been very lucky to have gotten some press and sone good reviews. I also made a Blurb book to go with the show and keep there after the show. I am sure you can find it at Blurb. Just type my name in their Search window. YOu will see my wife wrote the book. That’s a marketing tool (shhhh).
The gallery a coop gallery and I have a 2-year contract there. Even though a coop it does have a good location in a newly developed upscale pair of converted warehouses that are now filled with a dozen or more major Boston art galleries that have moved due to incredible rents in the posh Newbury Street district. Our location on Haarrison Ave. can now be said to be the heart of the contemporary art scene in Boston.
At the moment I have just completed a little presence on Inkshuffle.com and am updating T-shirts here and trying my hand at Threadless. I have 4 designs there and will see what they think in a week or so. Wish me luck.
So, life goes on. Emily is an A-student, so nice. It’s her year (Year of the Dragon). She’ll be 12 in May. Emma is well also. We are all still happy and working to maintain the reasons for that great state everyday.
Wish you well, Syd. – Dave
