There are so many possible titles for this piece, but the general idea is the one where we are all membranes between an outer and inner vision, connected to both and living in both. Visions can be made reality in both universes with some effort, but the delight is in walking that tightrope edge in the between where there is what? The soul? Or, more in keeping with today’s world, the interface?

“Mem Brain” is a watercolor 8.5" x11" painted on acid free 90 lb cold press stock. The original is for sale at $298 USD plus shipping. Contact Dave Martsolf at for details.

Excellent image of such an abstract concept, the interface is a good term for that veiled mystery. As a child I used to stand between the two large facing bathroom mirrors to watch my reflections disappear off into infinity, as the mirrors weren’t perfectly parallel, the reflections curved off around a corner. I would ponder, as this seemed like a road, perhaps a way to that ‘other’ place, just around the corner. This was not discussed with my religious family, it was my own idea. But I still don’t know how to walk into that mirror down that road…

  • I had the same experience. Amazing, Syd! If you wait long enough I think the road comes to you, but unfortunately I believe it also tears you apart. If you can calm down it’s OK. But, who knows?
