Shadows on the Land - Glacier National Park, Montana, USA by

This view was observed while on the boardwalk section of the Hidden Lake Trail on a return to the Logan Pass Visitor’s Center located in the far distance. The boardwalk is an effective means to keep the many visitors off of the sensitive terrain in the area, thus protecting it for everyone’s enjoyment.

The flat area in the foreground is the Hanging Gardens where a colorful variety of wildflowers vie for attention. In the background left begins the southern section of a range of peaks known affectionately as The Garden Wall. In back of it lie Mt.Siyeh and Going-to-the-Sun Mountain; all in Glacier National Park.

Shadows on the Land was featured in All Parks September 2009.

  • Thanks Brendan, I see from your site that you are already well on your way. I do photography as an amateur as well, really. I think you know the acronyms better than I. What is DOF?

Thanks Dave, well DOF means Depth Of Field, mostly created by a good composition or POV Point Of View. Hope this helps, if you’ve more question I would like to help you out. Let me know.

Absolutely stunning view. Bravo! Awesome capture! I feel like I’m on a horse looking over the valley

  • Thanks so much! Yes, go back 100 years and you would probably be here on horseback. It was a great view and experience.

    great capture!!

  • Thanks Gisela, I really loved Montana, like New Hampshire times 2 and with so much open space. I certainly hope to come back some day to explore your land in more detail. Thanks so much, Dave

Beautiful photo! I’m supposed to be hiking up to Hidden Lake next week, weather permitting. It looks like I have a lot to look forward to.

  • Hi and thanks. If you want a preview, I loaded a video of the hike to Hidden Lake on YouTube. Type “davidmartsolf” into the search box and you find it and more on this beautiful land. You will love the hike! – Dave

  • Wow! Amazing! Never expected! Also, for anyone reading this I recommend a PBS special going on this week and someday on DVD for sure, all about America’s National Parks. A lot of great history as well as beautiful filming in the parks. You will want to go to all of them and relearn the experience of total communication with nature.

I live in the coporate world for so much of my life. My visit to Glacier was an incredible experience. Free yourself and you artistic spirit and GET OUT! Thanks so much! – Dave
