The Last supper - oil on canvas - 72" x 52"
The Last Supper has always been painted as though by an observer. But, to me the point of all Christian teaching is to understand the world through the eyes of Christ. At the very least we should all try to emulate the greatness of the man.
So, what better way to feel our responsibility to others and learn how we should act toward one another than to put ourselves in Christ’s shoes so to speak. This painting tries to do that, and tries to catch the moment when all the disciples (only some of them shown here in modern dress) suddenly realize what Chirst is doing and what will happen soon in the future.
This is a “Let’s Pay Homage” to all the painters in the last who have painted “The Last Supper” and to the good tenet of the religion that the work is based on.
“The Last Supper” was featured in Hand Painted or Drawn Buildings and Architecture in August 2009.
It was also in the top ten of the PiMT group challenge Art in Art in August 2009, and was featured in the Imaginative Realism group in September 2009.

Hey Dave,
You painted this LONG before Dan whathisname came up with DaVinci Code..and you saw the woman in the group way back then…as ever ..the forward thinker, the futurist… this is one of my favorites, although I believe I have progressed to atheism at present, he was still a man and saw many things we didn’t and still don’t….anyway…the backgrounds of this work are as amazing as the subject. I wish some rich somebody would support you so you could get all the stuff in your head out, w/o the ties to the Earth that hold you back…I’m gonna win the LOTTO and we’ll be off!!!
GEt to work…buy paint!

Yes, it is oil on canvas. Still sits in the art room above the garage. What will my daughter do with all this stuff?

Again, I cant believe this is a painting! Unreal and excellent and I love the subject matter!
Dave Martsolf replied
Hi Leslie, That’s me in the madras pants with some friends as models sitting around an old covered wallpaper table in our old driveway years ago. Some of those pictured have already passed on. Amazing life! Thanks for your kindness and your fave. – Dave

Wonderful painting, inspired I believe by the master himself. We all need to break bread together, it changes hearts. Most of all this painting will be hanging in the Lord of Lords & the King of Kings palace someday. ; }.
