Friends - oil on canvas - 20" x 16"
This is a great painting for a child’s bedroom or play area. There is a small man floating in the yellow bowl, probably dreaming, with all of his childhood imaginary friends surrounding him.
The original oil painting has been sold, but prints through RB are still available.
“Friends” was featured in the Imaginative Realism group in August 2009.
“Friends” was also featured in “Voyage of the Surrealists” in August 2009.

I haven’t really made much attempt yet to go out and visit Red Bubble’s many worlds, so my stuff is just quietly bobbing up and down in the froth of the modern age.

You reminded me, freshman in art school, we were assigned to pick an old master and imitate their style; I chose Dali, they said “oh no, he’s not an old master”,I said, “you’re wrong, I’m choosing Dali anyway”—I got a C and planted early Rebel Seeds.
Dave Martsolf replied
If Dali isn’t an old master now, he will be considered one someday. I believe it. He was a great craftsman. “Tuna Fishing” is one of my favorites. Glad you planted those rebel seeds.

for sure it reminds me about THE MASTER, which is meant as a compliment

I had to wait to get back to my home to check your link as our corporate firewall would not let me in. Now, I understand your meaning. Yes, I have always felt a certain kinship with this man, though I never behaved publically as he did. I doubt at home he was anything but normal.

So this is the one!!!
Well… children will meet their own there, I am sure.
For they can transform the objects of Life as anyone.
But sometimes I think….
There is a quality in the way we see things.
And most of the time are really concepts.
Abstraction is a brain’s development. And I can see here a gaiety, a joy for living that it is contagious. And the tendency still is.. to remember Dali’s works. I do not beleive in evolution in art… I beleive in “discoverings” meaning that I think that all is writen, drawn and painted in the Universe… the fact is that we discover.. not invent anything.
And what I love most here… besides ALL… is that little figure tobooganning joyfuly… or may be falling into a sort of new world, by surprise… can be a man… surprised and terrified, can be a child playing, or can be a man playing or a child terrified… terror and playing are walking on the “razor’s edge”... they all are man’s soul resources for developing.
You told that was sold in another site… can be mentioned?
You were lucky… congrats again.

Dave Martsolf replied
Hi Rosa,
Thanks for your comment. The site was Absolute Arts. So, naturally, I have been spending some time snifffing around that site for the last two weeks, getting everything set like a neat little home should be – hah! I was helped by being placed in their bimonthly new works splash that consists of little icons of six or seven works at the top of their home page. I am sure that as soon as this is changed I will quickly drop into oblivion. I need to write a journal entry for all my friends here who I have missed for these last two weeks. Also, with my wife’s parents finally going back to China I suddenyl realize that any free time I once had was in large part a gift from their tireless effforts to help us in our daily lives. That sweet space is gone and life just swarms like bees to fill up every second with ‘normal’ life. I need to find that space again so that I can begin art work production again. – Dave

A masterwork, David. You have great talent.
Dave Martsolf replied
This is the one that sold at AbsoluteArts, but everyone can still get giclees if they really want one!!!! – Hah. I need to put that talent to work. I am so lazy sometimes. You work so hard. So, I will hold you up as an inspiration to what is possible in this life. Thanks, Dave.

When Dali meets Gilliam…. Superb!!!!
Dave Martsolf replied
Zooreka, Is this the Gilliam of Monty Python fame? You are so kind. – Dave
zooreka
Indeed it very much is…. none other than the ‘completely different’ Mr Terry Gilliam… The Pythons did well to import him…. mind you some of his movies are totally bizarre…..

This is a truly superb image…thought provoking and inspirational!
Dave Martsolf replied
Hi Ramasq, Thank you so much for your kind words. I will keep on trying to go to new places in my mind and bring them back for all to see. – Dave

Hi Dave, how are you! This is wonderful work here! Fantastic!
Dave Martsolf replied
Hi Jens, Thanks for your kind comments. I love your photography. The closest I got to Arabic art was in a visit to Granada and Seville Spain. I really enjoyed the 2D designs and some of the 3D vaulting used in some of the Moorish buildings there. Dave

Hey Dave, glad you put this one near the front, it’s a total favorite of mine!
Dave Martsolf replied
Hi Syd, Yes, it has been a real pleasure to see the original sell and still sell a print now abd then. I hope the original is well in its new home, somewhere in NYC from what I heard. Poor baby! – Dave

Dave Martsolf replied
I am so glad you like it. It is the first oil I actually sold after returning to the art world a year ago after a 20 year stint wandering in the wilderness. So glad I am back. Now, just give me more time. Thanks again, – Dave
