Accretion Mural (Self Portrait Aug-Oct '08)
This mural was created sporadically over the course of a couple months at work during my 15 minute breaks. It represents my shifting state of mind from mid-August to mid-October 2008. That time in my life was sort of a rebirth for me, and I felt like commemorating it by drawing it. This piece was all done in ballpoint pen on the back of six old 8.5”x11” coverage sheets destined for the recycle bin, which I salvaged and taped together.
My method was essentially the same as for my other Accretions: just sit down and draw without a plan, letting the images come and flow into one another. As always, I later scanned in the image and painted it in Adobe Photoshop CS3. Some of the artifacts of the tape and whatnot are still visible in the final piece, as a reminder of how it was constructed.
