Grad Filters, where to get them?? by David Firth

Posted on July 06, 2010

I bought some cokin brand grad filters a while back plus a 3 stop neutral density and I have found that they are giving a terrible magenta hue to any film I shoot with or generally just messing up the colours. The film exposures wern’t long enough for reciprocity issues to be the cause either. Of course when I shoot digital the camera tries to counteract the colour cast and it is not that noticable but still, it aint a neutral density like it says it is.
I am now looking for another brand that doesn’t have this colour cast issue. I know Lee filters are the cream of the crop but they are like $350 for just one. There must be a brand that is in between in quality and price but all I ever see up for sale are the crappy cokins.
So I am asking, can somebody please give me some advice on what brand to look at and where in Australia to buy them.
Please help!!!! :)

Hi David i use HI TECH filters they were recommended to me by a professional photo shop in Sydney. I have been very happy with the results. The 85 series fit the Cokin P series Filter holders. I hope this is of some help to you

    Lots of Luck

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to help. After some intensive searching I evenually found a shop in the UK which sells Lee filter systems and a much better price than here in Australia. Hence I have now invested in this system and am very happy with the results :)
