Lake Mungo at Dusk
Taken in Mungo National Park – NSW – Australia.
Took the long drive up to Mildura in the northern part of Victoria for my cousins engagement party and thought that I would also take the opportunity to drive out to Lake Mungo, where stand the “Walls of China”. Ancient clay formations from a time when the climate in the sub-desert region was substantially wetter. Within the clays lie fossil remains which achaeoligist say are the remains of some of the earliest settlers in Australia.
The drive is relatively short from Mildura, about 1.5hrs. But most of the drive is on unsealed and corrugated roads, unaccessable when wet.
If you get the chance to go, make sure you tell someone your plans and take plenty of water as temperatures in summer exceed 40C (104F). There is no mobile phone coverage and very little water.

Thankyou for you encouraging comment. It truely was a treat to be in such a wonderful location. It was worth the hours drive along the corrugated unseald road. My hands are still vibrating from holding the wheel LOL :)

Superb photo! I have a photo of this very section of the Walls, but it is not nearly as good as this one. The light is wonderful.

This sort of lighting happens about 15 to 20 min after sundown and doesn’t last very long. At the time it was getting quite dark and dull but the colours came out a lot more in camera. Of course I adjusted the levels on this pic and saturated a little but the colours were definitely there. Viewed larger there are even a few stars showing up. Thankyou for the comments by the way and I like you pics of the Perry sand hills near Wentworth. Reminds me of when I was a kid watching my older cousing tear around on dirtbikes out there – Even saw a dune buggy one time:)
