The final image in this series of Alyssa. Maybe not the best that I took on the day and I took plenty, but Alyssa now goes to my portfolio rather than returning time after time. I seem to have run the workshop backwards with my images.. from the final captures to some of the first.
For me this was the first time I have ever worked in concert with other photographers, I usually do it alone..and also the very first time that I have been involved in a “classroom” type situation where someone gave me some direction and teaching tips with what I was going to shoot. For me it was a little daunting, I have always feared that I would be "found out’ with my untrained skill and knowledge level… :-O ..
Probably up until a few weeks ago I never really thought that I would take Nude Art images.. I have never really been one for the so called “mens” magazines, I have always felt that they sexualise women rather than show the true beauty of the female form (there are also plenty of examples of fine male forms as well) but certainly appreciate the fine forms and delicate curves of the female form and how that beauty can be enhanced by good lighting and direction.
A couple of months ago I came across an image by Tony Ryan and I think from memory he was talking of what was and was not acceptable by our standards , usually as a result of the society we have been brought up in and the attitudes to some degree imposed on us. I had a look at his RB site and website and found that I subscribed to a lot of his philosophies. View Here
So, when I saw an opportunity to attend one of his workshops I decided that I would like to participate seeing that as well as the obvious learnings about studio lighting and even lighting in general, perhaps I could find out a little about why I dont like my own portrait work very much, to me it has always lacked something..
The rest is History.. I found the workshop to be very enlightening, and Tony to be a great bloke.. treating his models and those attending with the utmost respect and kindness and he certainly gets the best from everyone, from the amatuer to the much more advanced artist..not to mention the way the models light up under his expert direction.Tony direct the whole workshop in such a way, so that each part is a lesson in itself, and the flow is so natural that you hardly notice the transition.
I sincerely wish to Thank Tony for his patience, Alyssa and her husband, Diego, ( I hope they like the work I have done) and my fellow photographers on the day, to me it was a life lesson as well as a photography lesson… I also want to thank the ladies and guys of RB for the positive and somewhat unexpected comments on my work I would like to do some more of this style in the future .. but only time will tell if I do or not.. :-))
If you have managed to read my rambling to this point I thank you, If you ever have the opportunity to attend one of the Empowered Beauty Workshops, no matter your age, sex or photographic status I highly recommend Tony.. :-))
