This photograph was taken in a cemetery near my house. The unseen inscription above the hand relays a simple and sobering message: “Gone Home”. The stone that holds this carving evokes thoughts of a long gone era. Simpler times, then, back it the mid-1800s, …times that well up a yearning sense of awe within me. “Oh, can it be that it was all so simple then?”, I think amongst myself (ha), as I contemplate easy times so full of hardship and tiring labors. I shall never know that simplistic existence, not in my lifetime. “Could the realities of that extinct era ever come full circle… could it ever be that way again?” Only I don’t know nor do WE know what is or what was or what shall be. This stark and simple truth flows into my consciousness as a haze, leaving me to float away, off into the distance of time itself.
