Artist's Description

Mary Kathleen was an open-cut uranium mine and accompanying township located approximately 55km south of Mount Isa in the Queensland outback. The mine closed and it and the town were auctioned off. Today all that remains of the township is the roads and foundations/floors. This image shows the main footpath that once connected the supermarket with the bank, newsagent, cafe, chemist and post office. If you’re interested in ghost towns and remnants of times past then a drive around the old town and a wander around the tiers of the open cut is likely to be of interest. The Mount Isa tourist information centre can supply a map so you get the full picture.
