Artist's Description

This picture show three of the seventeen or so burial mounds from the Hopewell indian tribe. They are at Sinnissippi park in sterling illinois. The hopewell tribe lived in the area around 2,000 years ago, and that is when the mounds were made. This site was added to the National register of historic places in 1979. the park sits along the sinnissippi bayou, the rock river, as well as the BNSF railway, (burlington-northern santa fe) and atop a strech of cliffs overlooking the water.
