May 21st, 2011 and the Christian Rapture by Darren Stein

Posted on May 18, 2011

For those of us outside of the Bible Belt of the United States, Christian Fundamentalists are predicting Armageddon on the 21st May, 2011, based ironically on the extinct Mayan Calender (See sample photograph above). If any of you are expecting to dissapear off to heaven in the coming rapture or Judgement Day, let me know. I will be more than happy to look after your cat.

I’m an atheist and I am pretty sure that I will still be around next Monday to look after my own cat. Thanks all the same.. Oh and, by the way, one of those signs has been put up in this part of the world (Melbourne, Australia).
On a serious note, though, I find all this “Judgement Day” stuff highly illogical.
    Cheers.

I haven’t seen any in Sydney, but perhaps I am living in a more civilized part of the world…or damned to hell as the case may be. I would love to know how they’re going to explain this one on the 23rd. Maybe their will be a large group of former fundamentalist Christians lining up to hear the Dali Lama. ;-)

One would think they would not bother to advertise the radio program that airs “Mon – Fri” if 21 May is their last day here, eh? :-)

There have been false prophets throughout the ages and there will always be. There will be a judgment day, just not on May 21, 2011. One only need look to the Bible to see what God tells us about the end times. Amazing how many so-called believers make these foolish proclamations.
For those who care to know what God has to say on the matter (not man) see Matthew 24:36 “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows”.
The entire chapter of Matthew 24 explains it quite clearly…..Link

Congrats on this feature…. As I ponder the ramifications of May 21 (this has taken me about 10 seconds), I am reminded of a good friend who turned 63 on that date this year. He has been accused of being the Second Coming more than once over the years, but he, & we, got through his birthday unscathed. ~ Sheila
