Pasha Bulker

Highly photographed … June 8th – July 2nd 2007

The Pasha Bulker, a 6,741 tonne bulk carrier ran aground at Nobby’s Beach off the Newcastle coastline during a major storm on 8th June 2007. The Pasha Bulker was successfully refloated and moved to a safe location offshore on 2 July 2007. During it’s stay at Nobby’s Beach it became quite the tourist attraction.

This is a terrific capture, Darren. As you said , the ship was “highly photographed” but this shot definitely stands out. You’ve made it seem like you were right down on the beach ..which is unusual for a start. But then you have managed to capture those 2 waves perfectly – they really make this a standout for me. I’ve got a couple of shots in my portfolio, but none like this.

This is a superb photograph. The NSW Govt accepted today $1.8m in reimbursement of the salvage costs. The ship is fixed and now operating under a different name.
