relationships coke death religion drugs virgin mary
Interesting write… I don’t exactly follow but I like it none the less :p
Thank you, Matt. I hope you won’t be offended if I give you a boring explanation:
lines of white powder=lines of coke. These, like tram(or train) tracks point into the distance; in the poem they are pointing to the person’s death. The whiteness of the powder reminds the speaker of the woman’s pure white breasts which the speaker saw yesterday. The breasts in turn remind her/him of the two turtledoves which the Virgin Mary offered as a sacrifice in the Temple. Mary is herself a sacrifice beacuse she will suffer with Christ on the Cross; she is “pierced with swords” as a reference to Simeon’s prophecy. So the speaker in the poem sees the death of her/his lover as some sort of sacrifice; only, in her case it seems a meaningless sacrifice when contrasted with that of Mary. The point of the poem is to suggest the meaninglessness of some types of death.
I hope that wasn’t too boring ! Ha! :0 )
No, wasn’t boring at all. Was very interesting :D
I am so very excited by your explanation my dear… because those the basic thoughts that came to my mind when I read them… that means that you have succeeded in making your point very well!!♥Rhonda
