Kelly sat perched on the edge of the bed as Erin chose the warmer and more comfortable tack of getting back in bed, under the covers. A heavy silence hung over the two and Kelly stared down at the floor. Erin was the first to break the silence.
Kelly was almost shocked by the sound of Erin’s voice.
“Oh I don’t know. Maybe ‘so, like why did you drag my ass out of bed at 3:30 in the morning, knowing that I have class way early’, or something.”
“Look. You don’t need to get bitter alright.”
Erin felt bad at the comment. She saw the pain and frustration on Kelly’s face. She never liked to see her best friend hurting like that. “You’re right. I’m sorry.”
“Kelly. What is going on? Why am I sitting here with you at 2:30 in the morning?”
Kelly stared at Erin for what seems like an eternity. She was scared to tell Erin about what happened. Just as she was about to spit it out, Kelly chickened out.
Erin saw the ploy and quickly countered.
“Whatever. Why are we here?
Kelly was trapped in the conversation, yet she still couldn’t get it out.
“I don’t quite know how to say what I have to tell you.”
Erin was getting a bit annoyed again.
“Listen, I have known you since the dawn of time. Just spit it out.”
Kelly was still trying to draw some inner strength. Erin decided to climb out of bed and get some tea. She turned to Kelly with a cup in her hand.
“Do you want some?”
“That would be great. Thanks.”
Erin returns with the cups full of hot tea and sits on the floor facing Kelly sit perched on the bed. “So come on girl, tell momma what’s got your panties in a bunch.”
“I keep having these nightmares,” Kelly began, “and they seem so real.”
“What are they about?”
Kelly stared intently into Erin’s eyes. She finally caved in.
Erin stops mid drink, practically choking in the process. “Vampires?”
“Yeah. Vampires.” Kelly was embarrassed.
Erin rolled her eyes and took a sip. “Right. So, didn’t we have this conversation already?”
A very sneak peek at the novelization of the comic book I wrote titled “Dark Tarot”
It is the story of a college girl and her encounter with a vampire.
The concept started out with a question: “What would happen if a Vampire had a tarot reading?”.
The illustrated novel is due out later this year.
