I Stand Alone: Ornamental

I Stand Alone: Ornamental

I differ from all that surrounds me,
however I am proud.

Amongst my father’s original ornamental sunflower field, which has had at times up to 600 varietals growing I came across this particular sunflower, which I feel has a lot of class, perhaps it’s mainly because of the way the leaf is shaped, head is held, & petals are soft.

But I stood alone & unfortunately may only be remembered by my image.

I took this photo from an extremely low & awkward position, since I do not believe in the use of tripods, nor do I like to chop parts from my photos. It was only from this low angle could I capture the essence of this flower in this minimalist way.

The original photo, before the photoshop renditions is in my mind a simple classic, however was not suited for the dark silent image I am trying to portray.

There’s a balance and the perfection of inperfection found in nature, you captured its essence rather than the subject.

  • DaRkSiLeNcE replied

Ming, thank you for the complimenting thought & I think you’ve highlighted what I so often strive for in my journeys with the camera… ;)

Quite striking in its simplicity. Excellent job with the treatment. I appreciate the effort you had to make to get this angle. Makes it all the more interesting.

  • DaRkSiLeNcE replied

Greatly appreciated Karirose… I couldn’t agree with you more on the strikingness in its simplicity, if I’m allowed to say so myself ;) It’s just a pity the sunflower didn’t make it through to the next round… it was the last of it’s variety standing hehe… & thank you :)
