The night air seemed to close in on her with every step closer to the school building. She was desperate to see her friend alive but she also felt uncomfortable as she was all alone on a lonesome street. She could see the building on the horizon and she could not deal with the discomfort anymore. Without warning, she broke into a run in the direction of the school.

The school seemed so alone and deserted, almost like an abandoned house, only she was familiar with this one.
“Matt?” she called out into the hall. Still silence was all she heard, along with her own soft footsteps. “Matt?” she repeated. Suddenly, the was a crash from behind her. When she turned to face it, she realized that it was coming from the science lab. She was scared and out of patience, so she walked to the room and opened the door instantly. Her heart skipped a beat as she saw two figures, both of which she were familiar with. One was standing, panting and the other was lying on the ground still. “Matt?” She asked, facing the figure standing. The figure turned and rushed over to Cher.
“Cher!” It said, and when it came close to her, she realized that it was indeed her Matt. Although she was happy to realize that he was really alive, she wanted to know what had happened before she entered. She pushed him slightly away and his expression changed to a shocked and confused one.
“What happened here?” she asked him, wanting answers straight away. “Who is that?”
“Oh you remember, the science freak, Timothy,” he replied comfortably.
“What did you do?”
“Well he saw me here and came over running…and i got nervous, and well, this happened.” he explained almost embarrassed. Cher was confused now about Timothy.
“Wait, what was he doing here at this time?” Cher asked. Matt shrugged and changed the subject. She moved over to Timothy on the ground and checked his pulse. Slowly, she looked up at Matt and he saw tears forming in her eyes. “You killed him?”
“Look, Cher, I had to. He was asking a set of questions and i couldn’t explain anything to him now.”
“Explain what? What was he asking you? The only reason you couldn’t have been able to answer him anything was probably because you’re hiding something from me. What really happened before you ‘died’?” she asked, lifting her hands to form quotation marks when she said the last word.
“Everything that i said in the email, was true.” He mumbled something after that, which Cher could not hear or comprehend. She turned and left the room. She now had tears streaming down her face and she could not hold them back any longer. “Cher!” he exclaimed, following her out into the now lit hallway. She turned to face him and he came closer to her. He reached out his hand to her face and removed a falling tear from her cheek. “I’m sorry.”
“It doesn’t matter now anyway. Why did u ask me to come?”
“So i could see you.” He smiled and placed his hand on her neck.
“OK, but what about the email thing?”
“Well i do need your help with finding out who did it, but i just wanted to see you first.” He leaned towards her, and she backed away and smacked him in his stomach. He yelled and then apologized.
“It okay, but we should really be finding out who did this.” When she said this, Matt went still and was staring after her. She turned slowly and nervously to face the distraction. But when she saw who it was, she let out her breath. “God, you scared me.” She was now facing the new girl, Ruthie.
“Oh sorry, but i went over to your house to see if you needed some help with studying and your Aunt told me you were here, so i just wanted to make sure that you’re OK. And i see that you have woken the dead. " She was nodding at Matt behind me. Matt just stood there glaring at her as though she was the person from hell that came to drag him down. Cher just stood there glancing between the both of them and watching Ruthie smile innocently.
“So?” Cher asked, trying to break the tension.
“So…i think that I’m gonna go before someone sees us here.” Matt said with utter disgust as he was still staring at Ruthie. “Bye Cher, I’ll email you or call you soon.” After he said that, he turned and left through the back exit.
Cher stood there smiling at her and wishing that she had followed him. But what ended up happening was Ruthie and her walking back home together. She was now waiting for the next time that she would hear from him or see him again.
