The Sky Will Open...(kingdom's coming)

Would still mistreat our planet if it was human? There is one tree that gives hope, but the rest of the background is city and all it brings. There are things about our world that we do not understand. We think we are the superior beings in our dimension, but this may not be as we believe. Mother Nature has every right to be angry and we must take responsibility for our actions and inactions.

ink, white paint marker and watercolor
11×15” (Winsor & Newton Cotman and Loew-Cornell Metallics on Strathmore CP 300 series paper)

Inspired by Bauhaus song “Kingdom’s Coming,” lyrics as follows:

Madness in the wind’s got something to say
It ripped you apart
It will always be that way

It said Kingdom’s coming, causes chaos
Will cut to pieces
The film you saw today

With your big bad secret
Your crown of thorns
You wanted nothing, nothing, nothing at all

Just look back, back again
You wanted all, but it’s on the run
The sky will open soon
Could be today
Your kingdom’s coming, coming, coming today

Can’t take it easy now
Can’t turn back
Forget your bastard ego
Get it off—your back

It’s too late now, can’t turn back
Your kingdom came today.

The eye under the city and the pollution is perfectly placed and i like the scratchy, textural feel of the earth in the foreground. Well done.

    thanks, rosepepper :)

A visionary reinvention of the landscape as a “deathscape” – great compsotion and mood to this one… What medium is this in?

  • darkestartist replied

thanks, Thomas. this one is watercolor, ink and white paintmarker. and lots of unhappiness. ;)

Bleak and desolate, I feel like I need to take a bath if I look at the city too long – that’s actually a compliment… It’s another poweful statement. Well done

  • darkestartist replied

I keep staring, and it keeps staring back. I often wonder what is buried beneath the asphalt – the planet always springs through the cracks. Beautiful painting – thought provoking and engaging.

  • darkestartist replied

Brad, thank you very much for the comment. I am happy you enjoy it. It’s one of my favorites as well for the statement it makes. The planet might yet win, someday…

I watched the matrix film, again on telly. The machines considered that the only living things we (humans had in common with were viruses. Like them, we replicate and destroy all around us. Whereas all other life forms, contribute to the ecosystem.

You’ve summed that concept up artistically here. Excellent Painting!
Makes it into my exclusive faves.

You’ve got it right on the head, Collin. Thank you for getting my point and enjoying my work and commenting AND faving :)
