The Fall

The solid ground dissolves beneath my feet
From the highest heavenly peak I plummet
Scrambling to grab hold of anything stable, anything sane
Like a cat I writhe and right myself
Desperate to make sense of it, desperate to be OK
The ash settles all around me
The heavenly peak barely visible through the haze of pain
The slow dawning of realization
This rubble is now my home
A hallmark line is drawn-before and after
But I continue to look to Heaven
Believing that the blue sky will return
Although the sun may never be as warm
My heart may never be as strong
I look to serve, I look to give comfort
In my need to vanquish my Self
