“What do you seek?” Spirit asked…
The fire that cannot be extinguished.
“Where is such a fire to be found?”
It lies buried, deep within the human heart.
“Does every human possess it?”
Yes, but most will never know it.
“Why would anyone deny it?”
Humans are skilled at deceit, treachery,greed..and the consequence is that we close our hearts, determined not to be the fool…to save ourselves from pain..
“Does keeping the fire buried not cause pain?”
It does…but tending the web of “reasons” keeps us busy, and the pain at bay.
“What is the fire then?”
It is acceptance. It is trust. It is knowing. It is courage. It is love.
Then I asked.. what is Spirit?
“Only Love, for Love is everything.”

The fire, as you describe it, sounds like the heart of a young boy excited by life and all it’s possibilities BEFORE he is tamed by the ten-thousand no’s he will hear before he becomes a man. Love? For others, or, for his dreams? Or, all love, whatever be the case…just the love, the powerful inclination to pour ones self in without reservation? These words are fuel more much thought, much interesting conversation
Thanks for that Phil!! I love to see how my work is interpreted by others! What I had in mind when I wrote it was this; What do we seek? A deep love that will never die..but people get so jaded by the "no"s and the negative experiences that they become defensive and lose the faith and ability to trust that is needed for that love to be born and grow…..
