Striking nudibranch photographed on Cannibal Rock near Rinca Island, Indonesia.
underwater, macro, nudibranch
Wow, great colours
Excellent shot. According the latest opinion of the scientific experts (for details, go here , this is actually Ceratosoma flavicostatum. Miamira magnifica is no longer considered a valid species – but perhaps I’m one of the very few people who care!
I was aware of the name changes on this nudie. Until 1999 it was called Miamira magnifica, then it became known as Ceratosoma magnifica. In 2007 it was reclassified again to become Ceratosoma flavicostatum. I care to know the facts, but loved the MiaMira magnifica name, so chose it for the title of the image. They are beautiful creatures.

Not just beautiful, but in action, stretching its head and sniffing out the way forward! Excellent work!

Its very nice Dan – have you considered adding this or another nudibranch image to our current nudibranch challenge?
