This is an acrylic painting created by palette knife that I was inspired to creat for my fathers 60th birthday. I used gold leaf for the saxophone and for the music notes I added cut-outs that I then painted over.
I have always wanted to give my father one of my own artworks & as it was his 60th i thought this would be the perfect time & surprise. So I sneakily asked him if he could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
He answered: Paris!!
I decided to use one of my own photos of the Eiffel Tower (a photo in my portfolio called Lattice Works) & I knew dad loved bright colours so I thought it would look good to mix it up with colour. As the painting progressed both my husband and I realized there was a open space to the left that needed filling. So I racked my memories from my childhood & recalled dad loved the saxophone so a saxophone player seemed perfect.
Unbeknownst to me my dad was actually learning how to play the saxophone for a surprise at his own 60th birthday party and by that time I was unable to complete the painting so I told him he would get his special surprise for a Christmas present instead.
By Christmas I managed to complete the painting (at the last minute).
After wrapping it up and putting it under the tree to look like any other present, I left giving it to him until the very end. I reminded him of what I had said at his birthday – do you remember me telling you that there was another gift for your Birthday?
Yes, he answered
Well here it is.
