Flowers in the Window - Bat Ornament II by

Artist Statement

Flowers in the Window, the third part in a trilogy of photographic material concerning the nature of absence and departure, seeks to chronicle, through a catalogue to objects and documents, the life of my late grandmother.

In photographically maintaining that of which will no longer be within reach, the project attempts to hold onto something, to someone, that is vulnerable to the passing of time and defenceless against the decline of remembrance. These items, of which are both personal and telling, provide the token presence of the departed, facilitating access to memory, whilst furnishing evidence of an existence. They express personal taste, reflect personality and represent some of the most significant moments throughout a lifetime, enabling the viewer to form of an understanding of an individual, whom in life may not have been the brightest of stars, but as a wife, mother, and grandmother, attained a true sense remarkability.
