‘Vacant Trails’ is a collection of digitally restored images, salvaged from a number of mistreated black and white negatives, damaged almost to a point of disrepair. It would have been easier to disregard these scratched and broken frames entirely had they not come to represent my beginnings as a photographer, reflecting my artistic sensibility, and the development of my photographic style.
Driven only by desire to engage with the medium, I began photographing spaces seemingly separate from the world, forgotten environments on the fringes which point toward human existence through abandoned objects, but are in fact void of any actual human presence. In doing so it was as if I were creating my own post- apocalyptic version of the world – documenting the remnants of a species lost to time.
