red faced form
mixed media (oil, collage, biro, coloured pencil) on hardboard.
This piece is mostly painted, but i used old cds and the metal from tin cans on the face and biro and coloured pencil for a few details.
- the reason that this is not for sale yet is that i’m not happy with the photograph. i’ll upload a better photograph later
stephanie clifton
i esp LOVE this wonderful piece of unusual aisan tribal dan elbourne original. mixed media????
love….
Dan Elbourne
thank you stephanie :) i’m realy not happy with the photo though.
re: mixed media, it’s almost all oils, but the shiny white bits are old cds (mainly from internet companies) and above the eye and around the left hand side of the face are collaged with bits from an old peach tin. some little details were done with a biro and a coloured pencil.
stephanie clifton
it makes me happy to read how these images were put together..what with. just wonderful! i hope you are continuing to creaTE. it excites me to see what next. thank you. i never read your response to mine til now. not sure how i missed….but did.
my best, mister elbourne.
stephanie clifton
p.s. yes, it’s hard to see the details…..no shine to jump at you from cds and tin cans. photographing art is another art form….as is framing…..marketing etc etc.
JohnThunderbird
this is great, mixed media is fun, it talks
Dan Elbourne

Paul Compton
Wonderfully evocative. Truly beautiful.
Dan Elbourne
thank you very much paul. thanks for the fav as well :)
David Powell
Cool piece. It’s very complex…..I’m sure the original is really interesting to look at! I Like the chair a lot…have you ever seen one like that in reality? I’d like to build one!
Dan Elbourne
thanks davis :)
the “chair” is actually supposed to be a tail, but i can totally understand why you saw it as a chair. one of the great things about doing abstracted work is that people see all kinds of stuff in it that you hadn’t intended :)
amanda Rae
Hi..nice refreshing style to your work….
Dan Elbourne
thanks alot :)
MoonSpiral
This has such an intensity to it with the color and form. It is like some form in an embryonic state. Maybe reflecting something in your life when you painted it?
Dan Elbourne
thanks alot moonspiral. i’m kinda fascinated by embrionic shapes, but possibly this is less a representation of part of my life than something to do with the comics that i read as a kid :)
Heyman Dude
i won’t click the link for comics that you have in your last
comment yet, but i’m guessing there’s a combo of 2
characters from say, The New Mutants might be an
inspiration? even if I’m wrong about the inspiration,
this is a pretty good piece.
of work.
Dan Elbourne replied
thanks dude. i never really read much in the way of american comics. i mainly read stuff like the “Eagle” and “2000AD” (long-running british comics).

Your imagination is unfettered,,, that’s great! Would like to see what you qould do with black and white. Congratulations on your work..
Dan Elbourne replied
thanks very much emanuel. nothing black and white in the pipeline at the moment, but we’ll see… ::)

I love this. It reminds me of something I used to do with my circle template, only yours is a lot stronger in terms of composition. Your choice of colors again is wonderful.
Dan Elbourne
thanks lee :) circles to me seem to be an inherantly powerful shape.
bites
Wonderfull work great use of colour, it looks like an eagle fetus to me,
I love mixed media too : )
Dan Elbourne replied
thanks bites :) sorry for the delay in replying. it’s definately a fetus of some kind. what exactly it is, not even i know :)
Lynnette Shelley

It IS interesting work Dan. Re: your framing query earlier, I imagine you would need to frame this under glass with all those different materials. I would use an inner mount showing a sliver of cream or green, and a lighter coloured exterior mount, but that’s just me! And maybe even a very thin gold frame! I hope that doesn’t sound really awful! Just playing with some ideas!
Dan Elbourne replied
thanks again :) and thanks for your framing advice. all advice gratefully accepted :)
Kseniya Beliaeva
nice work
Dan Elbourne replied
thanks kseniya :)
Gili Orr
an embryo of…? interesting image
Dan Elbourne replied
thanks gili :) to be honest, not even i know exactly what it is, but yes it is an embryo of something!
