One of my favourite South Australian bush birds is the scarlet robin. While diminutive, this sweet bird is easy to spot with its brilliant red chest and flash of white above the beak. The male’s wings and back are jet black with white streaks, while the female base colour is a mid grey. They mate for life, and can be spotted darting down to the ground from low branches to catch insects during the day. I hope you find it a suitable gift for a loved one on Valentine’s Day, an anniversary, birthday or other special occasion!
