While stopped for lunch in the carpark at the Timber Creek trail entrance near Murray Lagoon on Kangaroo Island, my eye turned to the small creatures beneath the table. Among them was this lone inch ant, quite the looker. He generally shyed away from the camera, until he realised that I wasn’t going away without a nice sharp portrait. At this point, he turned and faced the lens of my camera, flaring his pincers and assuming a defensive posture. Makes for a great picture don’t you think?
